​Government's £750m for the charity sector

The Chancellor of the Exchequer announced that the £750m will go on:​

  • £360m will be directly allocated by Government departments to charities that cover hospices, St Johns Ambulance, victims charities, vulnerable children charities and the Citizens Advice.
  • £370m to small and medium-sized charities through a grant to the National Lottery Community Fund to support organisations at the heart of local communities making a big difference during the outbreak, including delivering food, medicines and providing financial advice.
  • Match funding donations to the BBC’s Big Night In charity appeal on 23 April, starting with a contribution of at least £20m.

The Community Help Hub is a one-stop resource for residents that has been developed with Barnet Together. Updated daily, the hub provides access to services for adults and young people in Barnet. Help if you are an employer

Small Business Grant Fund will provide eligible businesses with a lump sum grant of £10,000 Small Business Rate Relief Scheme or Rural Rate Relief Scheme. For more details, please see the full eligibility criteria. Check the advice page for more details.

​Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Sector Grant Fund will provide eligible businesses with a lump sum grant of £10,000 or £25,000 under the Expanded Retail Discount Scheme based on the premises Rateable Value. Check the full eligibility criteria or advice page.

​Business rates holiday for nurseries will benefit from a business rates holiday for the 2020/1 tax year. The Council will identify eligible businesses, apply this and adjust bills.

Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme guidance for employers is open to all employers for at least three months starting from 1 March. Employers can claim for 80% of furloughed employees’ usual monthly wage costs, up to £2,500 a month.   

​The Self-Employment Income Support Scheme will support self-employed individuals with a grant to self-employed individuals or partnerships worth 80% of their profits up to a cap of £2,500 per month. More information here.

​The London Growth Hub is offering business owners free 1 hour advice sessions with its Advisers to help access financial help, continuity planning and managing supplier or staff issues.  


Communities Together Network 

The CTN is Barnet’s forum for the community, business and faith sector to share information and connect with the council and other public sector services. It is led by Barnet Council's Strategy Team and open meetings take place four times a year.
