Do you want to take a more active part in the service?
There are several ways to do this.
You could:
- Be a welcomer and/or sidesperson
- Read the lesson
- Lead the intercessions
- Administer the chalice
- Make, serve and clear away coffee
Welcomer
- Arrive in good time before the service.
- Check that the service booklets are available at the back
of the church - Welcome people as they arrive
- If people seem unsure what to do, show them to a seat and,
if possible, introduce them to someone sitting nearby - Hand out service booklets as necessary
- Make contact with new and existing members of the congregation
after the service by inviting them to stay for refreshments
and introduce themselves
Sidesperson
- Arrive in good time and make sure the collection baskets are available
at the back of the church - During the Offertory hymn, take the collection baskets round and then to the front to be given to an altar server
- After the service, count the collection and enter the details
in the register
Reader
- The readings are printed in the service booklet
- Go to lectern on right side looking toward the altar
- Introduce the reading with "A reading from ..."
- Read slowly and clearly, making sure the microphone is on
- At the end of the reading say, "This is the word of the Lord"
Intercessor
- Prepare the prayers making them short (about 500 words),
relevant and interesting - Include in the prayers church, community, world, people in need,
and read the list in the booklet
Chalicist
- Help with administering the wine at communion
Fellowship after Church
- Set up the table with cups, coffee, tea, sugar, water,
biscuits and squash before the service - Put out tin for donations
- Fill and put on urn.
- After the service serve refreshments
- Clear away and wash up
- Tell Gillian or David if we are running short of cups
Cleaning
- Help with cleaning silverware
- Laundering church linen
